PhD Candidate in Functional Genomics and Pancreatic Cancer Research; part time 65% (m/w/d) (Forschungsreferent/in)

Scope of duties

  • Work on the project “Global mapping of drug synergy landscapes using massively parallel Cas13d genetic interaction screening” within the German Cancer Aid-funded DEFEAT-PDAC consortium ·
  • Investigate therapeutically relevant genetic dependencies and drug combinations in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma ·
  • Perform and analyze high-throughput genetic interaction screens, particularly using Cas13d-based screening approaches ·
  • Plan and conduct molecular and cell biological experiments to validate identified targets and drug synergies ·
  • Investigate rational combination therapies, including combinations with RAS/KRAS inhibitors
  • · Work with pancreatic cancer cell lines and additional preclinical model systems
  • · Apply modern methods in cell biology, molecular biology, functional genomics and proteomics
  • · Quantitatively analyze, interpret and document experimental data
  • · Collaborate closely with research groups and technology platforms within the DEFEAT-PDAC network
  • · Present research findings at project meetings and scientific conferences and contribute to scientific publications

Our requirements

  • A successfully completed university degree, preferably a Master’s degree or equivalent, in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, biotechnology or a related life-science discipline ·
  • Strong interest in cancer biology, functional genomics, mechanisms of therapy resistance and translational cancer research ·
  • Practical experience in cell and molecular biology, for example mammalian cell culture, transfection, RNA and protein analysis, immunoblotting or microscopy ·
  • Previous experience with CRISPR-based technologies, genetic screens, proteomics, next-generation sequencing or bioinformatic data analysis is an advantage, but not mandatory ·
  • Motivation to learn new experimental technologies and quantitative analysis methods
  • · A careful, structured and independent approach to scientific work
  • · Scientific curiosity, high motivation and enthusiasm for experimental research
  • · Strong communication and teamwork skills and an interest in working in an interdisciplinary and international research environment
  • · Very good written and spoken English
  • · German language skills are not required

The position is initially funded for three years. Subject to a positive scientific re-evaluation, an extension for up to two additional years is possible · The position is based at the LMU University Hospital, Campus Großhadern, in Munich · The remuneration is based on the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federal States (TV-Ärzte) including all allowances customary in the public service.
