Enlightening Science European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques. As part of European XFEL's strategic program, it has been decided to focus on the unique emerging possibilities for attosecond science using the ultrashort and intense X-ray laser beams that the facility can generate. In particular, research opportunities in nonlinear X-ray - matter interactions and ultrafast diffraction/imaging are targeted with this position as Postdoc in the MID group.

The Position

  • Development of attosecond science experiments and science using hard X-ray FEL radiation
  • Participation in attosecond beam diagnostics, characterization, and benchmarking experiments
  • Support of user experiments, commissioning and in-house research at MID
  • Data analysis and publication of scientific results

Requirements

  • PhD degree in physics or a related science field
  • Research background in experimental attosecond science
  • Experience with X-ray techniques and/or FEL science is an asset
  • Experience with ultrafast optical lasers is an asset

Compensation & long-term security

  • Salary range: min. 13/1 with 4,901.70€ - max. 13/6 with €7025,87, the actual level is defined by the individual work experience, here is the link to the current valid tariff table
