23 days left to apply! About BioMed X BioMed X is a leading innovation engine where disruptive ideas in biomedical research and development come to life. With our global network of research institutes and venture-creating incubators, embedded within major innovation hubs, we bridge the gap between academic research and the needs of the pharmaceutical industry. We are pioneers in applying the principles of design thinking and crowdsourcing to drug discovery and development. With our unique model, we partner with pharma, venture capital, and patient-focused foundations to identify key challenges across all therapeutic areas, recruit top talent, and co-create tailored solutions. In our stimulating ecosystem, talented researchers from all around the globe grow into industry-ready scientific leaders. They perform exploratory research, deliver industry-grade results, and pave the way for next-generation therapies. At BioMed X, we value curiosity, diversity, and purpose. Together, we serve as a vital catalyst for innovation in global health – for the benefit of all patients. About Team TAP The research group New Strategies for Targeting Autoreactive Plasma Cells (TAP), led by Dr. Eleonora Melzi, investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying B cell and plasma cell responses in autoimmune diseases. Using state-of-the-art single-cell technologies, advanced flow cytometry, and human immunology, our research aims to better understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving pathogenic antibody responses and to support the development of next-generation therapeutic strategies. Current projects focus on neurological autoimmune diseases and involve close collaborations with clinicians and industry partners. Team TAP offers a highly interdisciplinary and technology-driven research environment with access to state-of-the-art single-cell sequencing platforms, spectral flow cytometry, and advanced computational approaches.

At BioMed X we embrace diversity as we consider it the source of innovation. We are committed to equal opportunity in the terms and conditions of employment for all employees and job applicants without regard to race, color, religion, ideology, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender identity or gender expression, national origin, or disability.

The Position We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with a strong background in B cell immunology and single-cell immune profiling to join Team TAP. The successful candidate will lead projects aimed at dissecting human B cell and plasma cell responses in autoimmune diseases using state-of-the-art single-cell technologies and high-dimensional flow cytometry. The position offers substantial scientific independence and the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational research in human immunology and autoimmune disease. The successful applicant will

  • Design and execute independent research projects.
  • Develop and optimize complex flow cytometry and cell sorting strategies.
  • Perform immune profiling using human clinical samples.
  • Generate and analyse single-cell sequencing datasets (scRNA-seq, CITE-seq and immune repertoire sequencing).
  • Integrate flow cytometry, transcriptomic and immune repertoire data to characterize human B cell populations and immune responses.
  • Present research findings at internal meetings and international conferences.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation and publication in high-impact journals.
  • Mentor students and junior researchers within the team.

Required qualifications PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Systems Immunology or a related discipline.

  • Strong background in B cell biology, antibody responses, or immune-mediated disease.
  • Extensive hands-on experience working with primary human immune cells.
  • Proven expertise in multicolour or spectral flow cytometry, including panel design, optimization, cell sorting and data analysis.
  • Experience with immune assays such as ELISA, ELISpot and/or functional lymphocyte assays.
  • Hands-on experience with single-cell technologies, such as scRNA-seq, CITE-seq, and immune repertoire sequencing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English.

Desirable Qualifications (strong plus)

  • Experience with one or more of the following is considered a strong advantage:
  • High-dimensional single-cell data analysis using R or Python (e.g. Seurat, Scanpy).
  • Immune repertoire analysis.
  • Spatial transcriptomics.
  • Bioinformatics analysis of single-cell datasets.
  • Experience in autoimmune disease research.

What we offer The position is sponsored by SERVIER and is immediately available.

  • The position is offered initially for one year with the possibility of extension.
  • International, diverse, and positive work atmosphere, flexible working environment.
  • A competitive salary.
  • Access to training and lecture courses in house as well as in neighboring research institutions on the Life Science Campus in Heidelberg. Access to a vast scientific network.
